Online Party
Your friend has invited you to participate in an online event to fight human trafficking with The Emancipation Network!
There are more slaves alive today than at any time in history. If that fact surprises you, you are not alone as westerners think slavery ended a long time ago. But, according to researchers like Kevin Bales and the UN, 27 million people around the world are victims of slavery, more than at any time in human history.
We hope this online party gives you a chance to learn a little more about slavery and human trafficking, and what you can do to help.
At The Emancipation Network, our goal is to educate people about modern slavery, and to offer ways people can help end slavery and help survivors.
Survivors of slavery often cant reintegrate out of the shelters and back into society. The biggest barrier to reintegration is lack of jobs. One of our primary programs is job creation for survivors; this not only helps them build a normal life, but it also helps the rescue shelters gain more space to care for additional survivors.
The survivors in our programs make lovely gifts and handicrafts, and we import them into the US as a source of income for the survivors. If you choose to buy a MadeBySurvivors
product, it will help survivors of slavery, and people at very high risk, to build free, safe and independent lives. 100% of profits go back to anti-slavery shelters and prevention programs around the world.
This video will give you an overview of human trafficking and worldwide efforts being made to fight it. The focus of this video is hope and empowerment, so don't worry - it is not a collection of horror stories, but instead stories of survivors who have turned their suffering into activism.
