Product Description

NEW - This timeless necklace in sterling silver is a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of all living beings.1" pendant on 18" sterling silver chain. Designed by Christy Natsumi for Made By Survivors. Fabricated at the MBS Jewelry Studio in Calcutta. According to Christy "This collaboration with Made by Survivors seemed the perfect opportunity for me to explore a fascination I've had with the idea of how we are all connected in this world. My intention was for the jewelry to be a reminder that an injustice to one human affects us all, but more importantly, that a positive change in an individual is a cause for everyone to celebrate.

Beautiful and Meaningful Review by Candace Lightner
I got this necklace as a gift from my husband, and all I can say is, he totally nailed it. It has a timeless quality and I love knowing that what I wear on my body empowers and uplifts the people that make it, rather than exploiting them. It's hard to find fine jewelry that is fair trade - I wear this almost every day (Posted on 9/12/13)

Kali is one of the artisans in our Mumbai Jewelry Program. She was born in Nepal and her parents sent her to a Buddhist boarding school to protect her from being trafficked by family members involved in forced prostitution. Despite their efforts, at 15 she was drugged, kidnapped from the school, and trafficked to a brothel in Mumbai, where her aunt was the madam. After 2 years of slavery, Kali was rescued by Rescue Foundation in Mumbai and sent to recover at their shelter home. There she joined our jewelry program and also pursued her high school education. She speaks five languages, is a karate champion, and is a leader among her peers at the shelter home. Kali says she forgives her parents, but no longer wants to live at home. Her dream is to go to college.
