Flashlight Jewelry Range
It's Indian Independence Day! And I am celebrating with the Destiny Team. It's been so wonderful to be back, and the women have many updates for me. One of the women got married and has left work, but everyone else is still here and their quality has greatly improved! So it was an exciting day to start our new jewelry program: Flashlight Jewelry Range.
I brought with me a new order for jelry, and the tools to make it. While I was still in the US, Sarah and I got a generous donation to start a jewelry program. You see, many young women who are in the shelter homes, or the older women in the red light district, need a job but they have no stitching skills. Jewelry making is fairly easy to learn, and it can be made quickly, thus allowing the women to earn more money. So with these things in mind, Sarah and I set out to start a jewelry program, and with the donation we were able to start. TEN made their first order to Destiny for a limited range of jewelry.
Today I got two of the newer women to sit with me and make jewelry. Of course, as soon as I opened the box of beads all the women came to see. One said, quite confidently, that she would make me a pair of earrings. And to my great surprise she did, without any help, and her design has been added to our range! The two trainees were so interested in the jewelry making and have been very attentive and diligent. If the first order is a success, we will be able to expand the program and train more women. The new designs will soon be on their way to the Made By Survivors online store, so keep checking!
