My first post - to my mother
I am so blessed to have so many amazing, inspiring, and beautiful women in my life and The My Sister Project is the perfect platform to be able to openly appreciate and pay tribute to some of the most amazing women I know! Because I have so many women who have impacted my life, I would love to dedicate a post to each one in chronological order over the course of the next couple of weeks, starting with the woman who gave me life, my mother, Judy.
My mother was born in Seoul, Korea and when she was a young girl, her and her family moved to Seattle, Washington. There is not much more that I know or can confirm is true of my mom's past. It's like trying to put together a puzzle with a bunch of pieces from other puzzles. I can only imagine that she must of had a hard childhood because of her incapacity to share it with me or anybody else. However, similar to Srey's story, my mother has been able to overcome the horrors of her dark past, and has worked hard in order to have a career, a home, and a family.
I can't say that I have always had an easy relationship with my mother, but as I have gotten older, I have been able to appreciate and understand her and our relationship more. To this day, my mother continues to push me to be better, to try harder, and to do more (in other words is being a mom). More than just my mother, she is the most hardworking and generous person I know. Oh! I forgot to mention that she is also knows how to break it down and will out dance anybody on the dance floor - reminding me that no matter how hard life gets - never forget to dance.
I hope you will also take a moment to pay tribute to the important women in your life and post one or many stories on The My Sister Project webpage: www.madebysurvivors.com/mysister
