Sister Name:
Dody
Sister Type:
Grandmother

After a very difficult and painful family event that was in nature abusive, as I lay awake in my bed after the horrible event, my dear grandmother with one act and one phrase gave me the will to go on.  I was visiting my grandparents and the event happened at their house.  Family members who had been drinking got out of control and as my grandmother stood by in tears unable to do anything the night became nightmarish.  After everyone had gone to bed I lay awake, worried, frightened, bewildered, and hurting.  Grandma quietly came into the room, bent down and gently kissed me. I love you, she said and I always will.  She quietly left my bedside and returned to her bedroom.  She did not linger I'm sure for fear she might wake someone up starting the whole ugly scene again.  I've called upon that memory many many times in the years since to give me strength.  It wasn't the first time my grandmother came to my aide. Without her love and support over my childhood I would not have been able to hold on to hope.
