Reflecting on 2009

Reflecting on 2009 and the year of change it has been, I keep coming back to the faces, smiles, stories and hopefulness of the people we help through MadeBySurvivors.

For me, 2009 was the year that I learned about how truly horrific and widespread slavery is and how it is possible to help end it. I also lost a job due to a business closing and through that, was led to this one as an Ambassador for MadeBySurvivors. I haven’t only found a job, I’ve found a calling and I’ve found hope. I’ve formed new friendships and rekindled old ones. I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I thought. I’ve gained confidence in my abilities and witnessed how much difference one person can make. I find myself surrounded by an amazing network of incredible people. I also have realized how much more I can do. I find myself looking forward to 2010 with excitement and anticipation knowing that there is so much more we can and will do. I’m also incredibly grateful for what I have in life and cherish it so much more. I make a point to laugh more often than cry. I believe in the power of hope and love because I see the results of what it can do in the faces of the survivors.

I’m writing this in hope that the survivors will know how much they mean to those of us whose lives have been changed because of them. It is an honor to be an Ambassador with MadeBySurvivors. It is an honor to be an advocate for some of the most amazing people on earth.

If you are reading this, and are thinking about what you can do to help the cause, and maybe you need a job, please consider joining our amazing team of Ambassadors or contact us about hosting a home party or event. Last year was a year of change for sure, and 2010 is going to be even better. I know it will be because of what I do. What are you going to do?  Happy New Year!
