We usually hear about Fiji as a tourist destination and tropical paradise. Unfortunately, human trafficking and poverty are also serious problems there, especially in the inland areas.  The women who make this necklace are survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence and grinding poverty.  Thankfully they have now found a safe haven at Homes of Hope.  They have a great concern for the environment and for preserving the unique natural beauty of their country, which is why all their jewelry is made from renewable resources, such as recycled paper, or clay that they dig themselves from local beaches, and fire in simple kilns.
