This joyous bracelet is named after one of our Made By Survivors 'Founding Mothers', Tia Andrews, a quiet hero of the modern abolition movement, who served as Associate Director for the first five years of Made by Survivors' existence. She showed up at our original home office in Cape Cod one cold November's day in 2006, having just received her master from Harvard School of Government. She dove right in to help me pack boxes for the Christmas rush, and stayed for five years, helping to launch our school sponsorship program, the Destiny center, and the Calcutta and Mumbai jewelry programs, and heading up our customer service department. Often in those early years, we didn't have enough money for full time salaries, or sometimes for any salaries at all, but Tia - a single mom - insisted on volunteering her time to get us through the rough patches. Her love for the survivors and concern for their well-being, as well as her fortitude and sense of humor, helped us through many bumps in the road. We truly would not be here without her. Thanks Tia!
